Design to Improve Life: Transforming Business Counselors into Design Thinkers

In a world driven by innovation and creativity, the ability to think critically and design solutions is becoming increasingly vital. Recognizing this, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Zamboanga del Sur embarked on an inspiring journey to equip its Negosyo Center Business Counselors and other stakeholders with the power of design thinking through the Compass Training program.

The Compass Training program is designed to foster a culture of innovation and problem-solving among participants. This initiative is not just about learning a new skill; it's about transforming the way individuals approach challenges. By incorporating design thinking into their skill set, these business counselors are better equipped to assist local businesses and entrepreneurs in Zamboanga del Sur.

What's truly remarkable is that this initiative is part of a national competency-building effort in the Philippines. It highlights the government's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of its workforce and fostering an environment where creative solutions can flourish. The impact of this training goes beyond just the participants; it ripples through the entire business ecosystem of the region.

Zamboanga del Sur now boasts at least 49 newly minted design thinkers, ready to tackle problems with a fresh perspective. These individuals are poised to make a significant difference in their communities, helping local businesses thrive and adapt to the rapidly changing economic landscape.

The Compass Training program initiated by the Design Center of the Philippines and The Index Project of Denmark is a shining example of how investing in design thinking can transform individuals, businesses, and communities. By equipping Negosyo Center Business Counselors and other stakeholders with these innovative problem-solving skills, the region is fostering a brighter future for its entrepreneurs.

With a pool of more than 200 design thinkers in Mindanao following our training implementation, the journey towards crafting innovative solutions to challenges is well underway, poised to drive positive change throughout the region.
